At Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram, the Director & HOD of the Department of Gastroenterology Hepatobiliary Sciences is Dr. (Prof) Gourdas Choudhuri, MD, DM, FACG, FICP, FAMS, FRCPI. In addition to being a nationally renowned gastroenterologist and medical instructor, he also writes columns and is a philanthropist. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi provided him with his training. In India, He initiated the use of Extra Corporeal Shockwave Biliary Lithotripsy (ESWL) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) initially. The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow’s gastroenterology department rose to become one of the top five in the nation under his direction. He has been on the boards of numerous scientific organizations and publications and has taken the lead in the development of liver and digestive healthcare in the nation. He is a well-regarded teacher and has served as president of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. Several speeches, awards, and more than 200 scholarly publications are all to his name. He has over 40 years of experience in the field and is very skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad variety of GI and liver disorders. In addition, he is an expert endoscopist.
