INTRODUCTION:

Dr. Z.S. Meharwal was a founding member of the medical team at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and currently serves as Chairman and Head of the Adult Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation, and VAD program. He has performed over 30,000 heart surgeries in his more than 30 years of experience, including complicated heart operations and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) procedures. He is a trailblazer in the nation’s numerous novel cardiac procedures. He has taken an active part in training and instructing. He is the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute’s DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery Program Director. Many of the cardiac surgeons he educated in India and overseas are now practicing independently at various centers. has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international publications and has been invited to participate as a faculty member in national and international conferences. For his contributions to the field of cardiac surgery, Dr. Meharwal has won numerous honors, including the President’s Award. He belongs to the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Asian Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons, and Cardiological Society of India. President of India Sri APJ Abdul Kalam presented Dr. Meharwal with a Citation Award at the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Meeting in 2002, the Uttar Pradesh government presented him with the Saharanpur Aditya Samman for his contributions to the medical field in 2005, and he was inducted into the Limca Book of Records in 2008 for performing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery on a 94-year-old man who was the oldest patient to undergo CABG.
