INTRODUCTION:

Dr Ashok Seth is Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, Chairman of Fortis Healthcare Medical Council, and Adjunct Professor of Cardiology at JN Medical College (Aligarh Muslim University). For the past 40 years, Dr. Seth has been at the forefront of interventional cardiology. He has made significant contributions to the field’s development, advancement of science, and teaching. He also invented a number of angioplasty techniques for Asia Pacific and India, such as intravascular lithotripsy (IVL), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and impella supported complex angioplasties. He is included in the LIMCA Book of Records and has conducted over 25,000 angioplasties and 60,000 angiographies over his career. He served as the previous president of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and currently serves as the president of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC). In recognition of his services, Dr. Seth received the Padma Shri National Honor in 2003, the Padma Bhushan in 2015, and the President of India’s B.C. Roy National Award for Eminent Medical Person in January 2017. Along with 100 other national and international honors, he has also received the Master Interventionalist (MSCAI) award from the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (USA), the Republic of Spain Crus Officer with Insignia Order of Isabella the Catholic, and the Chien Foundation’s (Singapore) Lifetime Achievement in Interventional Cardiology Award. Doctorates from six prestigious national universities—BHU, AMU, Jamia Millia Islamia, Amity, Shiv Nadar, and Teerthankar Mahavir University—have been awarded to Dr. Seth. He is the founder and course director of five significant national and international angioplasty teaching courses: Imaging & Physiology Council of India, India Live, India Valves, CHIP-CTO India, and AICT-Asia PCR. More than 600 national and international conferences have invited Dr. Seth to speak, and more than 150 national and international conferences, including the esteemed TCT (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics) in the USA, Euro PCR in Paris, and Singapore Live in Singapore, have invited him to live demonstrate complex angioplasty techniques. In addition to having chapters in thirty books on cardiology and serving as editor of three books, he has over 500 papers to his name in peer-reviewed Indian and international medical journals. He is a well-known instructor who has taught more than 500 cardiologists in India and overseas sophisticated angioplasty procedures. He is an honorary advisor and consultant to medical device innovation businesses such as Meril, Abbott, SMT, and others, and has served as the Principal Investigator of multiple studies, particularly for “made in India” medical devices. As a proctor for Myval, Evolut, and Accurate Neo transcatheter valves, he also instructs other interventional cardiologists in the TAVI procedure.
